Just did Border X-ing Mex2Guat@La Mesilla & Guat2Hond@Copan
Just a quick note. I just came across the borders at La Mesilla, Guatemala & Copan, Honduras. Had no problems whatsoever. All easier than my X-ing at Tijuana. Both border X-ings are relatively small towns but with full border crossing facilities on both sides. No one tried to jack me up or hustle me for money or want a bribe Got a fare exchange for my leftover cash at both places from the local money exchangers who the cops recommended to me. If you’re worried just check online or along the way for the exchange rate before you get there. Crossed on a Sunday morning leaving Mexico with no problems. A note Honduras is dual currency it seems because they would take both Lempiras and Dollars at the border and many other places. Took about 45 minutes at Mexico to Guatemala & only 35 minutes at Guatemala to Honduras. Had a Registration & Passport copy with me which is all they asked for.
Both borders are convent places to cross if you coming down from Plenque/San Crisabal area in Mexico or going from Tikal, Guatemala to see the Copan Ruins in Honduras. All amazing places in there own way. Made Antigua from the border in three and a half hours along a beautiful stretch of good canyon sided highway and Copan is ten minutes from the border. Any questions just drop a reply here. Buen Viajas

Thanks for the info. I'd be interested in hearing about your travels around Palenque - Antigua.
Also, I'm surprised the Honduran border near Copan was so smooth. I was there 2 years ago and it wasn't much fun.

I'm in McAllen Texas and am planning to cross the border tomorrow. Can you recommend any cheap accomadations on the way to and in Antigua? Also, did you cancel your Mexican temporary import paper, turn in your hologram? Or did you retain them and was there a fee to do so?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
