Mexican/Canadian insurance
Hello,
Here seem to be my options for insurance:
ICBC wants me to insure my bike for the year at $365, and promises to repay me the cost of bike insurance while in Mexico, $221,65 ($300CDN)
Has anyone done this, or think of a more cost effective way of doing this so I don't have to double up on insurance.
cheers,

So long as ICBC will remit the insurance while in Mexico you're unlikely to get a better deal. The only other way out is to cancel the insurance, send your plate back (which they require), and make a plate. (btdt, it's very possbile) Your reg document will still show registration so you're ok there. OTOH, ICBC charges a lot for cancellation, and you will have to re-insure from out of the province in order to leagally ride back through the States. And trust me, that can be VERY problematic. You could be flatly refused until you show up with the bike in BC. damhik.

We shipped our bike to Europe last summer, and when we returned I submitted the shipping documents (to & from) plus the European insurance receipt to ICBC. Took about a month and a cheque for the time out of province arrived.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
