Mexico auto insurance
Hi , As I'm shopping for Mexico motorcycle insurance for a trip to Guatemala I noticed that it has medical evacuation also. Does this hold a candle to medical evac. like Medjet ?? And will there be an option for medical evac. when I purchase auto insurance at the border of Guatemala ??
Can I buy auto insurance for Guatemala online ???

IIRC, Sanborn's offer insurance for Central America.
I'll guess that it's up to you regarding comparing candles...

Mexico insurance
If you are just rushing thru Mexico in a few days it may suffice to buy a policy for only that time , but if you are going to linger and come back north within the year it may be worth your while to try getting a "drivers license policy". I just found out the details about this kind of insurance in December and am happy with it. This kind of policy lists your Name and Drivers License Number on the policy , NOT the vehicle details, which leaves you free to come back for multiple trips using different vehicles. Also it is a LOT cheaper than vehicle nominated poilicies. For example in Dec''07 I parted with $ 180 US for ONE YEAR of drivers license insurance, whereas the same dealership would sell me a ONE MONTH policy of Vehicle Nominated insurance for $187
Liability limits are a bit lower than the other style , but no problem , and you are also covered for towing a vehicle ( not likely with a bike) and it has some roadside assist and bailbond help. With such insurance you could be covered no matter what length of stay in Mexico and for a later return. Your evacuation insurance is likely already covered by your out of country medical insurance which you should buy before leaving home.
CA insurance is stickier, Guatemala may not sell it over the internet, don't know. They used to sell to incoming tourists from local dealers there but that stopped.
Best bet there is thru Sanborn's , but that takes about a week to set up.
