Mexico City DF >> tire search

I am looking for a rear tire for my F800GS. Can anyone point me to a store or two where I can find tires? I am looking for a highway tire with the specifications 150/70-17.

I understand I will pay more in Mexico. Am looking for a reason prices and selection.

Thanks!

Open the Mexico City yellow pages and you will find bike shops galore.
That size is very common and most shops that sell tires will have it in stock ready to mount and balance for a price.
Supervise the installation unless you want to be waiting on spacers at a BMW parts counter. And make sure they seat it correctly.
You are going to pay about $2,500 to $3,200 for a name brand quality highway tire like a Continental or a Michelin. A Bridgestone will be cheaper and wear forever but give you less feedback. Installation and balancing should likely run around $400.
All prices in pesos, of course.
Seriously, almost any bike shop bigger than a bathroom will have something for you or get it within an hour or two.
Don't worry about not speaking Spanish if you don't. Pull up, point to the tire and say "Quiero una nueva, por favor".
They will understand.

Bridgestone tire secured!

Thanks for the reply. And to all those that sent private messages. Gary Dymond and others recommended Moto House, so I went there and bought a Bridgestone. Good price, friendly sales guy, mounted the tire up the street and was on the road in two hours flat.

In my experience the BMW Motorrad website returns a confusing list of motorcycle and auto centers...don't count on the results (as of 2013-05) Hopefully they will improve their search engine results....

This location is a Motorrad center:
Servicio Central, S.A. de C.V.
Nueva York 289, Col. Nápoles, C.P. 3810 México, Distrito Federal

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
