Mexico - Emergency shipping of KTM 1190 Engine

Hi everyone,

maybe some of you know my story. I had big problems leaving Colombia just 2 months ago. To continue my worldtrip I had to buy a new engine from my KTM 1190 Adventure R. Since there wasn't enough time to organize a shipping of the "old" engine back to Germany it came all the way along to Mexico with the "Stahlratte". We were hoping to find some other ship that can help me with the transport of the 65kg heavy machinery.

Well - this didn't really work out and I am looking for a possibility to ship the thing from Cancun to Germany. The only option right now is a very expensive air transport. The engine is not working but a good mechanic could fix it within a day. It has lot's of plenty new parts that didn't even run more then 5000km. My idea is to sell it in parts or completely to compensate the costs I had for the new engine.

Maybe someone here knows either a possibly shipping company or maybe (even better) someone that could have use for the engine. A brand-new engine cost like 8000$ - I am willing to give this one away for much much less money. In case you need spare parts - this is your chance. ;-)

I am not expecting to much - if I don't find a good solution within the next 3 days I will give it as a present to someone I don't know yet... Jajaj - crazy I know....

Any help welcome...

pretty sure your best bet is going to be with Air Canada. they have some of the best rates around and many folks have had good results using them. they fly from mexico city, which shouldn't be too difficult for you to get to with the engine.

Condor air and air Berlin are flying to and from Germany to Cancun so that is your possibility to send your engine back home.

Hope this helps..........safe ride

Call Hiperbikes in Puebla

Call Pato at Hiperbikes in puebla. They are a KTM dealer. They might buy it for parts.

I abandoned a whole bike in Cancun

Canada to Cancun on 250$ motorcycle | Adventure Rider

Maybe you can find it and put that motor into your 1190

All jokes aside I am pretty certain you can ship this to America via UPS ground if it weight less than 150lbs. Back in my sportbike days, I have shipped a few motors via UPS ground by keeping the whole box at lest than 150lbs. (one of them I lied, said it was 148lbs when I knew it was 152lbs)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
