I have used them several times. The website is easy to use, and it saves your info, so on subsequent trips it takes just seconds to renew. They email you a policy, which you then print out. I have never had to use the insurance, so I have no idea how they are about paying claims.

This might be one of those small world stories. I looked at your profile, and I think I might have taken some machine shop classes with you in the 80's. Jim Rowsom's night classes at MATC. At the time I was riding a CB750 and an old Harley 45. Let me me know if I'm right or have gone bonkers.

Bought Drive Mex insurance

Hi,

I bought a 6 month policy from DriveMex DriveMex.com - Mexican Insurance Online To Cover You While in Mexico which was really inexpensive ($90 or something for the minimum coverage). Received link online immediately for policy printout. Haven't had to do a claim (despite a minor crash in the Copper Canyon) but buying it was easy!

Try Mexpro.com or Sanborns. If you have a Canada or US license I think that the choice on Mexpro will be the best for you. Avoid buying at the border, it's more expensive than the i'net. Ride safe.

mexico insurance necessary?

normaly i only buy a insurance if it is required for the border entry (like in costa rica)...
is a insurance in mexico obligatory?
so it is necessary for the border crossings?
(we plan to enter from belize and like to stay in mexico maximum two months)
all the insurances above seems me all a little bit expensive, for my budget....

i am also glad for all other informations (insurances) for the countries from costa rica up to there...

muchas gracias...

Bunda,
You can enter Mexico with no insurance if you wish, they will not ask for proof of insurance as a condition for allowing you in. But be advised that technically it is required to have liability insurance in Mexico. No cop ever asks for proof of insurance at roadside checks - UNLESS youy are involved in an accident.
If you are staying in Mexico for 2 months it would be economical to get a full year's policy of DRIVERS LICENSE type liability policy. This covers you, the sole rider, for a full year and costs much less than buying trip insurance dedicated to your particular vehicle for two months. For example a year's DL policy can be had for about $180 US money from www.mexicoautoins .com . Other riders have put up posts for other companies which can be even a lot less money. There will be insurance sold right at the Mexican side of the border . Perhaps they too can issue the less costly DL type policy, but you have to ask specifically for that , they do not volunteer that info as it does not make as much profit for the seller.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
