motorcycleinsurance Mexiko

I am from Germany and me and my fellow are going to Mexiko from Nogales in Arizona on two motorcycles. I ask the Sanborn Insurancecompanie for a motorcycleinsurance but it cost about 280$ for two month in Mexico, each Bike. Thats to much money. I need a cheap way to get a motorcycleinsurance. And what about driving in Mexico without any Insurance? Sounds stupid, i know, but we have a realy low budget.

i used an isurance company called sunrise(i think) based in florida for the us and canada part of my trip. they did offer insurance for mexico but i did not bother. i worked on the principal that i would be careful and lucky, if you feel careful and lucky do the same and spend the money on cold s in the evening. also how comprehensive the insurance is for mexico i dont know. I will post the phone number and the full name of the insurance company i used in a few days.
happy planning

Try www.bajabound.com I used them for a recent motorcycle trip to Baja and they were reasonable. They can give you quotes online. This will be for liability cover only.

Regarding insurance in Mexico, if you are in an accident and its your fault and you don't have insurance, you will go to jail until you can come up with the money. And it will probably be a while before the authorities sort things out.

You won't be sipping any cold s in a Mexican jail, I guarantee...

I have visited Mexico several times and have been stopped at checkpoints many, many times and never been asked to prove I was insured, so it is possible to ride without insurance. I have always been tempted to do just that, but have always wimped out and bought insurance. Last time I used www.mexadventure.com , $38 for 10 days. Very convenient as long as you have internet access, have never had to use it, so I don't know if it is worth the paper it is printed on.

hello,
I crossed the border at Tijuana last october and bought mexican insurance right across the border.the cost was US$104 for 90 days.
I have no internetadress of this company but their adress is;

ANA Compania de Seguros,S.A. de C.V.
Av. Insurgentes Sur No 1685, Col. Guadelupe Inn Tel.nr.53-22-82-00
C.P.01020, Mexico D.F.

I hope this is helpful, maybe you can give them a call if they have an office at the Nogales border.
bye,
Mark

I live in Mexico and can confirm that insurance is not legally required. If you're confident that YOU will not be the cause of a traffic accident, if you're on a tight budget, your money might be better spent on a short-term international health/accident insurance policy that will cover you if you wipe out hard or are hit.

Be sure to get a price for the period you need and also get a price for a full year. I found that a one year policy was cheaper than a six week policy! I can't remember which company I used, but it was an online purchase, print out your policy deal.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
