Needed: rental bikes in Costa Rica in January
A friend and I will be there Jan 6-15 and would like to rent a couple of dual sports but I really don't want to gamble with a company I find on the 'Net. Does anyone recommend an outfitter/rental company in San Jose?
Thanks,
DAVE

Several of my friends have used www.motoadventuring.com and been very happy, guided tours, though.

$540 for the week (with insurance) you need to bring your own gear.
Have fun!!!

I second motoscostarica.com
Based in Atenas, hour or so outside San Jose, managed by Paul 'Chip' Furlong, ex-AMA racer, all round good Gringo, great guide, top geezer and worth spending time getting to know. Rents DR650s and DR350s, with or without guides.
I had a top ride with him and a few fast greybeards this time last year. The beach route round the southern coast is especially lovely.
Cheers, Dan Walsh

In case anyone is interested a friend and I just returned from Costa Rica and we did rent bikes from Motos Costa Rica based on the recommendations here.
We kept a DR350 and a DR650 for over a week after signing up for only 3 days originally. We got to see a whole lot of Costa Rica in that time and had well-maintained, great running bikes to do it with.
I really have to recommend Motos Costa Rica and Villas de la Colina, the hotel at their office. The bikes are inexpensive, the food is great, the private cabins are beautiful, and Elsa (running the hotel) and Fred (owner, racer, dry wit)are most accommodating.
They didn't even mind that we lost the key to one of the bikes and had to perform a little field surgery on the switch.
