Ohlins dealers in Central America

Hi

I have an Ohlins rear shock but stupidly have the lighter spring in it and would like to change it for the heavier one as it wants to bottom out sometimes.

I´m in Cartagena about to go over to Panama then will head north. Is there anyone in Central America (apart from the dealer in Guatamala, I´ve already emailed them) preferably in either Panama or Costa Rica who could swap the springs over?

Many thanks

Larssens Motors in San Jose

Try Larssens Motors in San Jose, CR (near Centro).

They are a competent suspension shop, doing work with car racing and off-road motorcycle racing. They do sell Ohlins, but sell much more White Bros. shocks and others. You probably don't need an "Ohlins" spring - another brand would do. Either way, they should be able to help.

I have more contact info back with my stuff including Long/Lat info, I'll try to dig it up and email you, post it here as well.

hi mike , at least here in el salvador there is no dealer for ohlins the guatemala one is as near as you can go, I heard some friend change his spring from his 1150gs for a heavier one and he uses one from an 1150 gs adventure supposed to be stronger and he says that works ok, probably you can find one at a local bmw dealer in panama or CR, instead of a ohlins one , as quastdog says on another brand , good luck.

Ricardo.

Jurgen (the owner) was burned fairly severly back in December in an accident on the local speedway - just testing a car, not wearing all his Nomex protective gear. If you don't hear back fairly soon, its possibly because he isn't working all the time (if at all) and the other guys may not be checking his email regularly. Sorry, it appears that he was the only one with an email address. You may need to give them a quick call, tell them to check the email.

BTW: they rebuilt and recharged my Wilbers shock with parts sent from Wilbers in Germany. Shock's holding up well. I was told in Honduras they were the only one between Panama City and Mexico that could do the job.

Hi guys does anyone know if the workshop still exists as I need a rear shock rebuild? (I have the parts) There doesn't seem to be anything in Panama city and we're heading north.
Cheers
Pete

Muchas gracias amigo Mr Bert
I have already visited Bavarian Motorrad in Panama City but they cannot help
I have sent an email to Yamaha Costa Rica (I'll be the in 10 day/1000km) who, according to Ohlins website are closest to me.

Thanks again for the info.

Pete

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
