not sure exactly how it works but it will definately mean leaving the bike in customs as you will have a vehicle stamp in your passport which may prevent you leaving the country.
Alternative is to find a place in Pasa Canoas where you can store the bike in "no mans land"
I see you are also considering selling the bike, drop me a line when you are near to Panama, i MAY be able to find someone interested, problem as always are the costs of paperwork, taxes etc.
May be better turning round & riding back to the US in (10 days.)
