I'm stunned, beemerbird!! I think that probably IS the record. I think aggressive braking on paved roads is what wears the front quickly.
What sort of % on/off road would that be? And how many rears in the same distance? I reckon on using 2 rears to every 1 front.
Talking of pressures, I generally run 42/36, and reduce to 25/20 or 25/15 even off-road. I thought higher pressures were less likely to cause punctures, but I kept 42/36 for a fairly short section of Ruta 40 recently, and got my tyre quite badly cut in a lot of places, and a nasty puncture from a sharp stone, the first in about 4000 miles of gravel roads on my current trip. My opinion now is that lower pressure is better off paved roads. The ride/grip's certainly a lot better, less vibration etc. which apart from being far more pleasant for the rider must be better for the bike. Only risk as I see it is from denting a rim on an embedded rock.
