TVIP Issue ?
So we're in Baja and off to the mainland soon. Got our TVIP's and Tourist cards no problem. Paid the $400 deposit on my credit card.
Just noticed my credit card expires at the end of Jan and we will be leaving well after that.
So the question is, will they still be able to credit my deposit back onto
my dead card, or if that is not possible will they give me cash instead ???

The normal policy is to give you back what you paid with in the first place. CC credit if you paid with CC, or cash if you paid with cash, your method of payment is noted in their computer system. I have no experience trying to get credit onto a different credit card, or how rigid that policy is.
Depending on where you are going, the only glimmer of hope I can offer is the border across from El Ceibo, Guatemala didn't have CC processing when I was there a year ago, so they might give you cash there regardless.

This is not a big problem, BANJERCITO has explicit rules for this kind of event.
If your credit card is expired or nonfunctional for whatever reason BANJERCITO
will be unable to direct the refund to you until you notify them of the renewed card's different number and new expiry date OR provide the number of a completely different operative CC IN YOUR NAME ( underline that)
If you paid cash for the deposit they will pay back in cash .Indeed the El Ceibo. crossing did not have CC capability and they might pay back in cash,
but the sole BANJERCITO representative at that border point has MONDAYS free , so do not go by there on a Monday.
But is your trip a one- way south? If you are going back north through Mex to the USA within the 180 days of the TVIP you do not cancel it when going into Central America. You are allowed to keep it and can even go back into the USA with it and pick up your renewed cc .
.As long as you cancel IN PERSON with the BIKE PRESENT at any one of the border exits to the US or Cental America
However you are probably a computer whiz and should be able to contact your cc company to get the card renewed pronto and , if it is like the MC and VISA with which I am familiar, you should get the same cc number.
This is a heads up to anybody planning a long duration trip:
Get all your documentation refreshed before you set out and have
them all arranged so none expire during your travels.
For details I am sure the BANJERCITO website will clarify this.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
