Hi fellow eee pc owners,



I have just finished up-grading the the specs of my 901 eee pc. I increased the the ram to 2 gig and the drives to 68gig. It took me all of about 10 minutes to do. It was very easy but i though i would post a simple how to.

I got the parts from crucial memory (Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com)
the ram chip was
2GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 upgrades for ASUS Eee PC 901 Netbook, CT874715 from Crucial.com
and the ssd was
64GB, PCIe SSD, upgrades for ASUS Eee PC 901 Netbook, CT923491 from Crucial.com

It took about 2 days to arrive.

To install you need some non-magnetic jewlers screw drivers and a clean place to work.

Step1) unplug and remove battery, then to make sure that there is no charge in the compute hit the "on" button.

Step 2) open the back pannel- two screws

Step 3) The ram is at the bottom of the now open panel covered with a black static cloth, push out the two retaining clips, the old ram chip will tilt up to about 45degrees carefully pull out the chip.

Step 4) Still at 45 degrees from flat, line up the new ram chip, and carefully push it in to place, once it is in push it back flat making sure the retaining clips engage.
RAM DONE!


Step 5) The SSD chip is held in wth two more screws (smaller then the panel screws), once these are removed the chip will also move up to 45 degrees (careful this can make the screws fly off and you can lose them easily).

Step 5) Like the ram chip at 45 degrees line up and push in you new SSD chipset and replace two screws.

Step 6) Replace back panel and battery

Step 7) Turn on. Check the system settings (often in the contol panel) and it should now register your new Ram as 1.99gb. Under my computer (in windows) you should see your new drive (usually "D"). If you don’t see it: you need to label it and format it. To do this go to your desk top: right click “my computer” click “manage” then “disk management” . you should now see your new disk. If there is no letter you have to give it one by (again) right clicking your unlabeled dive and then click “Change drive letter…..” after that click “format”. It takes a while to format so get a cup a tea, after that you should be flying.
