Pardon my Linux ignorance
Will the Linux installed on the Asus eee pc play the BBC iplayer/RealPlayer by default or does it require a play-with to work?

It’s been a while since I used Linux but I think Linux boxes can now stream programs on iPlayer as long as their Linux box has the latest version of Flash. Another route you could look down is the “Real Player 10" for linux
RealPlayer for Linux - the best audio and video player - Real.com
Been a few years since I did any sys op work with linux, so forgot a lot a stuff mate

Radio, yes it'll do it, but iPlayer for TV isn't so hot as after about 20 mins it seems to freeze. There's a theory on the fora for the EeePC that this is because the temp file gets too big. Best thing is to find a couple of EeeFora with Google and keep up to date on what's going on there.
Oh and of course the TV iPlayer doesn't work if you're not in the UK anyway, unless you bounce it off a UK-based proxy (but I didn't say that).

Looking good so far. The iplayer is primarily for Radio podcasts (Moyles/Mayo/Kermode etc) whilst out-and-about in Europe. Cheers, chaps!

Are you allowed to post sites condoning the use of anonymous proxy servers so that non-licence payers can stream BBC TV?
Thanks though

I started as a Linux Sys admin last week, so far not so bad! Sendmail is a bit of a pain though, I think I will move the mailserver to postfix at some point. For now I just restart it!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
