The Airhawk solved the uncomfortable seat problem for me on a Vstrom 650.
Yeah, it's pricey at US $150 (ebay stores) but a custom seat will run you more than double that amount. And the Airhawk works.

One Airhawk for sale!
I have one left over - have a custom fitted seat now, so it's surplus, but near as new. It's here in London, will make you a deal! PM me if interested. It's the rectangular one, should fit most seats - of both kinds
Note I will be on the road Thursday, heading for the Belgium and Portugal Meetings, so it will be 2 weeks to ship. US$100.

I had one a few years ago, but it didn't solve my butt-ache problem.
Other riders have used them with great success.
I suggest trying a 1-1.5" or so sheet of high quality comfort-type seating foam. Not expensive and an easy experiment. If it does the trick for you, a sleeve or covering could be easily made. It comes in different densities. This is what's used in airliner seats....where butts must be pleased.

I've got one. Couldn't keep it in place very well and really didn't do much for me. I have several friends that really like theirs. Ended up getting a custom seat that solved my issues. I recommend Grant's offer. Remember not to put too much air inside. Just enough to clear the seat with your bum.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
