R and G Heated grips
I have fitted a set of R and G heated grips (think retail price is about £40) on to my xt600e which I ride every day. I also use a set of bar muffs too.
I start my bike warm it up on choke while putting lid on and during this time set my grips to 4/5 to warm up, by time lids on they have normally took the edge off the cold but they take a few mins to get to full temp but when they are there bloody hot!! once up to temp only really need them on about half temp in about 0/-1 degree C.
The grips them self are not particularly soft (Im a fan of medium renthal grips) but do not feel like cheapo hard plastic type. I cant comment on how slippy they are/arent when rained on as I use bar muffs.
Fitting is very easy, each grip has its own wire with connector plug that plugs to the control unit (size of small match box) and the feed is the same. The power feed for the unit comes with a set of ring terminals to connect straight to the battery but this leaves you open to the risk of some one switchin them on when parked, I wired mine up via a relay that is triggered by the main 12v Ignition feed from the standard loom that way they can only be switched on when the ignition is on.
These grips are easy to switch on and adjust the temp with gloves on as it is just one button. The indication lights take a bit of getting used to as the glow can shine on other ones but once your used to it its ok.
I would fit them again as the are good value and work well, they are not as comfortable or quick as the BMW ones on the F650gs but they are my fav after market ones out of the various versions I have tried.
There are a set of heat elements on the market that go straight on the bars with the grips of your choice on top, this with the renthals will be what I will do next if I don't get the R and G again.
Hope this helps you.
