Leather vs. Vinyl recovering - Worth it?

Hi all,

My 1990 Tenere's seat needs re-upholstering and leather is an option at the place I'm going to have it done - it costs a bit more so I'm wondering if it's worth it?

Any comments?

Thanks,

David

Let see...

Will it get wet? Yes... Will the leather get soaked? Yes. Will you end up with a wet bum on a dry day .. Yes... Will you have to clean the leather, Yes ... will it take longer to clean than vinal Yes...

What was the question again? Unless this is just a show pony.......

I tried this before. I put cow leather (good quality) and realised it gets wet, difficult to clean (looks dirty) and doen't look better than vinyl. Agree with Frank.

Sticky

I once had a seat recovered with the wrong type of vinyl on the advise of the shop I took it to. The result was a seat that you stuck to all the time instead of being able to slide your bottom around freely.

Just so you know as this was an expensive lesson for me. I had to have it redone at my cost.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
