Star Com
I purchased Star com because of the advertisment that they stood behind their product. Well, Mine never worked right and still doesn't. The only comment I got from Star Com was that they had never had that problem and I must be doing something wrong. Problem: if the connecting from the connector to the helmet is jiggled, it quits working. Star Com repeatedly offered to replace the wire if I sent it back but it would have to be insured and they would not be responsible if the wire had been damaged. I now run another brand.
I sold the Star Com to my brother-in-law who is an electrician and radio nut. He couldn't get it to work and sold it back. For half the price, buy something else.

Nokia N95
I use the MP3 Player or the Radio function, with a set of the small ear headphones instead of ear plugs, (which i always carry)
If we need to communicate when out on a ride, i use the two finger approach again, or pull over and shout,
I gave up on spend any more cash, as it appears when a rider gets upto 80 and onwards the noise from a Arai overides any sound from speakers,
So i sing to myself what a wonderful world

I assume that you are talking about a starcom1. I am sorry to hear about your problems. We also had some issues with the plugs not sitting and it turning off the unit, but they were rare and the rest of the time they system worked a treat (rider to pillion). All in all i am very happy with the system. Good luck with what ever you decide to go with.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
