Touratech brackets

Hi,

I have a set of homemade pannier boxes which I intend to mount to a touratech rectangular hoop using their own brand brackets (the mounts). I've just seen a picture of the brackets and they are made out of plastic.

Firstly, has anyone had any trouble with these breaking? If, so what can be done to strengthen them? Perhaps a tray underneath the box?

Secondly, I've not seen these before, so before I buy, how does the quick release system work?

Thanks a lot

Ed

I've got the zega panniers and the attaching system is a doddle.

At the bottom of the square frame, attached to the pannier, is two hockey-puck sized plastic bungs, with a slot cut into them. The frame slots into the pucks.

At the top, there are two more pucks, but with a metal bar. A bolt extends through from the inside of the pannier (with a large handy rotator) to the metal bar. You position the bar vertical to lock into the puck, and over the frame, and tighten up.

Et voila!

Can remove/fit quicker than I could type this!

In terms of stability, I think it is a very firm and strong fit. I have more worries about the pannier frame damaging the bike subframe in a crash than I do about the panniers coming off!

Unhappy Pros & cons

Well, yeah, they are strong enough to hold the box, but after a while (lots of Kms & dirt) they tend to get stuck - meaning it gets more and more difficult to get the pannier fitting tight against the rack. I tried to get the bolts sliding smoothly with silicon spray, but to no avail :-(

I've got them, but I prefer the Metal Mule brackets. But that would mean you'd have to get the MM rack.
