What's Missing

Just a general question really, BUT. Is there one item, mod, product that you think should be out there and available. Talking metal, plastic, add-on that would benefit all over-lander bikers?????? I have the technology and contacts a bit of time (little budget) and love a challenge.

I suppose I may seem a bit odd saying this, but the last thing I need is another gadget. The world has too many of those already.

What is in short supply are products which are simple, reliable, and just work. Products designed to last a lifetime.

Problem is those types of products don't make much money.

Here's something I've wanted for many years and have often thought about inventing - espec. on wet nights - a windscreen wiper for my helmet visor.

Build one of those at reasonable cost and I'll be first in the queue to purchase one.

Does Mary Poppins handbag have an anti-gravity devise? Because one of them would be handy on occasion

The bag has a gravity reduction device so it can be carried with all that stuff in it.

For full flight however you need the optional umbrella.

Yup.... I know one or two really useful items that everyone wants/needs but no one sells them.. I've only seen a few home made jobs and everyone goes "ooo ahh, I wish I could buy one for my bike"...

Im not telling you what they are though as im going to start making them next year

The problem is that most of us are a bit awkward to market to. We don’t fit a certain "Type" and we’re fussy about things being just how we like them.

There are often products that are nearly right that with a bit of fiddling will do the trick so we’re happy to bodge something up and muddle by.

The biggest problem with a relatively small market is making something to a low enough price at small volume. As an example, I have a product that I designed and patented (not for bikes) that would sell well at £10.00 but at low volume will cost £40.00 to make. To manufacture at a low enough cost would need £80,000 tooling and high volumes.

Since it's patented, you won't mind telling us what the product you designed is...

a welding machine that's solar powered, the size of a regular pen and can weld aluminium as well as steel, is relatively cheap and indestructible.

Go!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
