How to fix to an SLR650
A question for everyone who has made/fixed or genreally owned a Dual Purpose bike?
My girlfriend rides a Honda SLR650 - (the version just before the vigor replaced it)
We are looking at how to attach luggage to the rear - I have touratech kit on the back of my XTZ and was looking at setting up a similar frame for either hard or soft luggage to sit on... Unfortunately the bike has 2 high mounted exhausts..
PROBLEM - There are so few attachment points.
I read the post on various other groups about using a strap of metal to hold the soft panniers away from the exhaust. Mounted from the rear footpeg to the rear rack.
Has anyone tried this with an SLR and if so where did you fix to... as far as I can tell -
1) There is the bolt holes for the exhaust that can be used..
2) There are the 4 TOP rack mounting points under the rack.
3) There is a bolt just infront of the Exhaust that the rack comes down to.
4) You can not mount to the rear pillion foot peg as they are mounted onto an aliminium forged piece.
All of these points come off the rear sub-frame on short metal spurs.... The rear sub-frame appears to come out of the bottom lower engine rear section. And then there is no support anywhere else. Is this going to cause problems?
Has anyone any suggestions on how to make straps to support soft luggage?
Much appreciated in advance,
Tony.
