Build new CaraWagon roof
I am in search of building-plans for the aluminum pop-up Carawagon roofs which were built onto Land-Rovers until the early 80's - or even better, know if there is a company some place in the world making them.
Or does anyone know pop-up roofs that do not use cloth and when open don't make it obvious someone is camping?
Any hints are highly appreciated

Raised roof
There was a chap in East Yorkshire who used to build raised roofs using a flat roof panel conected to the vehicle with two side panels and three piano hinges to allow them to fold into the vehicle when the roof was down. the end panels have one hinge at the bottom to connect them to the vehicle and push up to support the roof and fix the side panels. the end panels have door seal around them to make the whole lot water tight. He does not bother waterproofing the piano hinges as very little water can get through. He used marine ply and stainless hinges. Very simple, but very effective. I hope you understand what I mean.
Cheers Mick

I know this is an old thread, but did you get to build a carawagon roof?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
