Correct Use of Dual Battery Switch
My dual battery system is controlled by a Cole Hersee Battery Switch that has settings of Off/Both/B1 and B2
I am not sure of the correct use of the switch options ie;what to set to when camping to ensure the starter battery is not run down plus the other options.
Could anyone advise full correct uses/settings

Hi Tony,
If you have this switch (M-750 Battery Selector/Master Disconnect Switch)
then the manufacturer site says:
"A selector switch allows use of the first battery, the second battery, or both batteries simultaneously. This provides back-up starting power in an emergency.
Either or both batteries can be selected for energizing."
So I think:
when camping, select B2 when B2 is your auxiliary battery.
When starting the engine select B1 (when B1 is your starter battery)

You dont give enough information . eg how are they charged , do you have a seperate split charge system ?
If you dont have a seperate split charge system Then when parked either set to OFF or if camped batt 2 or not camped batt 1 . When starting after camping try batt1 , and in emergency switch to both . When driving if going to be long drive set to both if short drive set to batt1 .
If you do have seperate split charge system then use batt 1 for normal use and switch to batt 2 for camping as advised previous . Then both for emergency start. HTSH

I fitted one of these type switches and as said before b1 is the vehicle b2 is the auxiliary or camper. On mine the two were not connected unless the 1+2 option is selected. so it does not matter which one is selected when stopped. it is advisable to only start on battery 1 which should be the vehicle battery. I never had a problem with this system, very simple and reliable many boats use them. Just start on 1 and switch to 2 when driving or after a few kilometers. You have to remember that it is a manual switch and as such all the power from the alternator is going to one battery or the other unless 1+2 is selected. This is not recommended unless all batteries are the same and same age (I was told).
You will not run down your vehicle battery but you must remember to keep it topped up. Never drive in the off position!
