Landrover 110 or 90
I hear the best Land Rover for doing an around the world trip is the 110, but I am considering the 90 as it is cheaper and smaller (better for shipping charges).
I will be travelling solo for the majority of the trip and will have a roof tent fitted so sleeping in the vehicle itself isn't required.
I would just like some opinions on this choice, or pointers to web-sites which discuss this topic.

Here is a one sided opinion to a many sided argument from an owner of many Land Rovers
If space isn’t an issue but fuel and shipping costs are I’d go for a 90 over a 110 but don’t underestimate the advantages of being able to sleep in your vehicle at a push. I guess the whole security issue depends on where your going but I don’t think I’d get much sleep in a roof tent parked up in Lagos…
Another advantage of the 90 is its easer to park in towns (and turn on hairpins) because of the shorter wheel base. Its also easier to bump start a 90 on your own but I guess the choice really boils down to personal preference – space V economy and ease of use.
Personally I now have now have a 128 defender with an ambulance body which is 2 x 5 x 2.5m which is great to stay in but not so good to park

Don't forget that a 110 fits into a 20ft container, so you won't save any money in a 90 by shipping in a container.
There was a guy called Colin Clements who went down thru Africa in a 90 recently, he has a website somewhere which may give you some pointers.
Personally I agree on the sleeping inside option - theres plenty of times I can think of when getting a rooftent out would not be wise. However, it is possible (just!) to sleep inside a 90...

Hi, another factor that plays in this decision is self control. Whatever the space available it will only just be enough. Therefore if you decide on a bigger vehicle it is tempting to take one or two extras, pretty soon you're at the weight limit. Bearing in mind the entrails of the two models are pretty much the same, with a pair of 110 springs under the rear of the 90 you should have a healthy margin of safety even with the back full. Theoretically the bigger the margin of safety the less likely you are to break something, although with a Land Rover I'm beginning to think they design weak points into every part to keep the spare parts industry happy.

You're unlikely to save very much (if anything) by having a vehicle that is 20 inches shorter. The extra space will be a godsend many times, and the ride is more comfortable with a longer wheelbase.
90's are for off-roading, 110's are for expeditions.
Whilst a complete LR fan, and at the risk of launching a whole new debate, you are probably better off with a Toyota. Your spares (and experienced mechanic) possibilities will increase tenfold...

here's how i see it... the money saving on the purchase of your landy is probably worth it - i am one of three guys driving to cape town, and we all agree 1 person should go in a 90. in terms of sleeping, we have nearly always slept either TOTALLY in the middle of nowhere, or in a secure area (car park/ camp site). worst comes to the worst, and if you are stuck, you'll probably be so tired as to be able to sleep in your driving seat!, but more often than not, in our experience of west africa, you'll be totally OK in a 90.
the shipping argument already posted is a valid one to consider - you wont save a whole lot of £.
