Lashing down an auxillary fuel tank
I'm about to leave on an overland trip in my Hilux pick-up; one of the last things I need to do is lash down a fueel tank I procured from the local HGV breakers. It's a DAF lorry tank, must be about 160-180 litres. It's going just behind the cab in the load area, and needs to be secured frmly to the deck of the load area.
Any recommendations for how to do this?
On page 138 of Sahara Overland II is an illustration of a Range Rover with a 200 litre oil drum, secured with what look to be ratchet straps. Do you think these would be strong enough?
Are there any metal-strap lashing systems that anyone knows of?
I've seen 500kg ratchet straps, but the question is what to attach these straps to - does anyone know of some good, heavy-duty lashing points?
Luckily, the underside of the load area is easily accessiible in the Hilux, so I can either screw fittings in, or, preferably, use bolts.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Dan

Tank straps
Hi Dan
You can either put some eye bolts through the front and floor of the bed (but only in a reinforced spot) and use ratchet straps, but better just use the metal bands that held the tank on the truck, they have threaded rod each end, and you can put things on the tank without the ratchets getting in the way.
PS Leave a bit of ullage in the tank, or fuel will expand and leak all over.
Regards
Bruce
