Sahara Travel Vehicle- Toyota HJ60 vs Pajero vs Patrol
Hi All,
Been reading Chris Scott's Sahara Overland and enjoying evey moment of it. Now I was wondering how current was the advice regarding the Land Cruiser HJ60? Out here in the UK, getting hold of a clean one for reasonable money seems extremely difficult these days, and many aren't equipped with an aircon. Patrols- the 4.2 TD seems like an ideal alternative but are again far and few between. I've got a Pajero Mk1 High Roof 1990 2.5TD, and was wondering whether that can be adapted for such an expedition? And what are your thoughts about the Mk2 Pajero with the 2.8 L engine, being more powerful that the HJ60 and nearly as powerful as the HJ61? The Pajeros are available in huge numbers and for good prices, come with an aircon, and mine can be upgraded to 16" tyres with ease. Maybe Chris can shed some light? I can see the explanation in the book with a bigger lazier diesel being better, but surely 23kgm torque in the 2.8 Pajero is good enough? Also the ground clearance between these cars doesn't seem too different. The idea is to travel economically but still be able to use the vehicle as a daily driver here in the UK. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ash
