Oil Bath Air Filters for Iveco
Has anyone experience with oil bath filters. I had one on a merc 608 and wonder if I could fit one to my iveco daily 4x4. it was such a simple solution, no more paper filters.

Hi Graeme
My Iveco WM has a paper filter, but on top of an oil bath similar to the old series Land Rover job. It's all in one big steel canister; the air intake on the L/H wing goes to the oil bath in the bottom then up through the paper filter and across to the turbo. After a month of desert piste-bashing in Morocco last January the oil was doing it's job: on cleaning it I found about 10cm of oily sand in the bottom of the oil bath but the paper filter was like new! So I can definately recommend them. Old technology rules!
The bad news is your Iveco has the filter on the other side so even if you got hold of a military unit it won't fit. But an old L/R Series 1 or 2A oil bath filter would probably do the job as long as you can find the space under the bonnet.
Iveco recommend changing the oil every 10,000 kms but don't forget that's with the dual filter system. I'm not sure what Land Rover say (they just have the oil bath) but it'd be easy to find out. Incidentally, the WM also has dual in-line fuel filters.

Iveco 4x4 as sturdy as merc 508/608?
Hi Graeme,
i know it's quite off topic but since you owned a Merc 608 before and now have an Iveco 4x4 you seem the perfect guy to answer some of my questions.
I have a Merc 508 for the moment (actually drove it from Belgium to SA west route and back up east route) and love it for being so sturdy and simple in terms of mechanics. However, i've been thinking of buying an Iveco 4x4 also (the type the Belgian police uses) but wonder if it would be as reliable as the Merc. How would you compare it in terms of mechanics (strong, simple and reliable?), speed, interior noise and fuel consumption?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Greetings,
Koen
