Pics of the new landcruiser Pickup V8 turbo diesel

The new 79 series !!

In Australia this car has the 210 bhp version of the 1VD-FTV 4.5 V8 engine. If this cruiser will come to Europe is not sure jet. The new 100 series in Europe are going to be fitted with the 260 bhp version of this engine. This car might become a common site in the Sahara soon. Can't wait to take it up the dunes I hope Toyota will make a troopcarrier version as well.

Looks like you went to the same motor show that I did in Brisbane. Certainly looks the part, it has a huge intercooler. You can never have too much horsepower can you! Take a guess how much Toyota jacks up the price over the old model.

Thats looks ugly...and did you see the amount of plastic on there...the boys in the desert aren't gonna be happy...if I had a few quid laying around...I'd buy a whole bunch of the 2006 models and hold onto them...they'll be worth a premium in a short bit!!

continuing tradition

certainly looks like toyota are continuing the tradition of not going for beauty! As I understand it there will be a basic (African...or Poverty Pack) spec version - less plastic and still with the 1HZ engine. Troop carrier gets a normal 4 door configuration making it a lot more user friendly. I believe that mechanically it is unchanged from the windscreen backwards - so both the V8 and the 1HZ versions should be pretty popular. Still can't work out why Toyota are still giving us all these fantastic choices and L/R are still just ar**ng around - putting in a small but high tech transit van engine in the Defender - I think they have rolled over and given up competing. Real pity. I am in the process of changing my Defender to a new (but 2006 model) troopy - certain aspects of the Defender are super, but L/Rs evolution now seems focussed only on the Chelsea Tractor market - as usual the Defender just gets a parts bin treatment...

Too shiny - looks like a Mitsubishi. I bet it has electric seats.

Are those FWHs on the front?

Toyota need to move the ugly cones further back off the test track because this one managed to hit them all again Not as bad as the 80 or (shudder) 100 series though.

If they did the older model with coils front and back I'd be tempted.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
