Pneumatic recovery jack?

Devil makes work and all that!
I have been contemplating why you don't see air operated long travel jacks? Most overlanders/4 wheelers have compressors and I know that Bowler for example use a air driven recovery flap thing, so I have been wondering about the feasibility of using a compressor and a pneumatic cylinder as a hi-lift substitute. I always wanted to use a truck type cabin jack, but maybe air would also work? What are the thoughts on this anyone. Not talking about airbag type things which are readily available obviously.
It also came to mind more when I ripped off and pretty much destroyed my hi-lift while being a bit enthusiastic with a steep bank.

You can get them, but they are expensive...
Pneumatic Fast Lift Air Jack Premier 2ton 2-Stage Sealey AFJ2

Also I wonder how longit would take for your average car based compressor to jack a truck up.

For the money, you would be better off with you average air bag jack.

What are the advantages over a standard jack?

how much does it weigh?

From the looks of it, there is still more to go wrong with it than a standard Hi-Lift or bottle jack. If you carry both of these you are pretty well covered. Besides, not much goes wrong with these conventional jacks anyhow... so why try to fix it? I am only thinking of lighter utility vehicles as i dont have any experience with Iveco's or Unimogs etc. maybe the jack would be better for these?

you will only end up taking that air thing AND a bottle/Hi-Lift.

and for 500 notes? the money could be better spent elsewhere in my opinion

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
