Question Side mounted jerry can holders for 110

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a set of side mounted jerry can “panniers” for a 110? Failing that, does anyone have any plans, photo’s or good ideas so I can build some....

The type of thing I am after are a couple of close fitting racks ( can’t stick out too far due to legal reasons) that will hold 3 jerry cans on each side – above the rear arches and covering the side windows at the back.

Any help will be very gratefully received

I've seen some on a Jap truck when i was in Tarifa last time, it was a square frame of angle iron, about 2" stuff.

the height was the same as a can, and the width was for 2 cans. where each can sits, there was a ratchet strap which went over the can to hold it in place.

If you send me your email address i'll fling over a few pictures of it.

Also, what sort of 110 have you got? it it's a plain pick up or hard to, you can fit the military side lockers, which hold 2 cans in each one. or Foleys also do a kit which is similar to the military one.
I'll send you the parts list for the mil one too.

cheers

Jamie

Very nifty..

of they would be easy enough to make out of dexion. Just frame 4 bits around a jerry and screw them together.

Thanks for the Daerr link and part number – I did look there first but couldn’t find them – guess I need to improve my German!

From the look (and price for 6) I recon I will have a go at making some and see how it goes. Diesel Jim, can you send over some of your pics please – hugh(at)delphigraphics(dot)co(dot)uk. The can holders are to go on a 110 CSW so side lockers are out.

If my metal working skills work out, I’ll post the details in case anyone else is interested.

Cheers

Hugh

Hugh - how did you get on with your jerry holders? I'm about to start a similar build so it might be good to swap tips.
cheers

side mounted jerry can holders

Guys I got a blacksmith in Cairo to knock some up out of angle-iron. They are brilliant and I am amazed nobody sells them. They are on my 110 hardtop, two per side, backed onto stainless steel to spread the load. I am going to get them galvanised as now, two years on, they are rusting a bit.

Brilliant, brilliant kit. Easy to make.

Thumbs up Another idea...

I found a great thing that might help, if you have a mantec-like rear spare wheel support bracket. A double jerry can holder that fixes on to the spare wheel, called the cammel can:
http://www.shadow-line.co.za/product_cammelcan.htm

Worth a shout, especially as jerries are used rarely.

PS. Also if you are looking for an extra fuel tank and are going to South Africa, www.frontrunner.co.za do them very cheaply.

Cheers.

How to lose your back door!

Looks nice, but an extra 40kg (plus leverage) on the back of a standard LR spare wheel carrier, over corrugations? I'd give it an hour, seriously.

Even on a Mantec or pivlock I'd say it was pushing it for driving any distance.

side mounted jerrycans Defender 110 CSW

Hi all,

Came across this thread looking for a solution to carry jerrycans on the side of my Defender. I know that Frontrunner has them, but they fit to the gutter which is already used by the Hannibal roof rack (full length gutter support).
I found another solution at Landy-Camper Neunkirchen / Expeditionsfahrzeuge - Innenausbau, Hubdach, Dachzelte fr Offroad-Fahrzeuge - HOME , but this was a DIY by one of their customers.

I know that these are not allowed in Europe, but seem to be well used in (South) Africa.

Does anyone have any suggestions, drawings, pictures, suppliers, experiences?

Happy travels

120kg of fuel mounted high up and outboard of the CoG, that's sensible.

Anyone thats crawled under a Landrover (and that's anyone that's had anything to do with them) will know how much empty space there is there, tucked out out of the way, ready to be filled with containers.
It might not look as cool or Tomb raider but extra tanks underneath will be a lot safer, but I'm biased, I've been in too many rolled 4x4s.
