sideways facing seats in the uk
Has anyone got some info on the new legislation that sneaked in regarding the use of sideways facing rear seats.
What are the height limits for using these?
I gather the act is being applied retrospectively. is this back to the begining of time or is there a cut off point where old cars can still be used with sideways facing seats for children
cheers in advance

Child Seat/Restraint Laws
Hi Andy
heres a link to the Halfords website - fairly good interpretation of the new laws that became enforcable from the 18th Sept
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...tegoryrn_53785
The laws are retrospective - full stop!!
So if you own a vehicle, lets say a LR 90/110 or Disco with inward/side facing seats they are no longer useable by a child who is under 135cm tall and of a certain age.
Hope this helps
Chris

thats fairly useful, although it doesn't cover sideways facing seats but from what you are saying, even if you have, say, a 1952 series 1 you can't carry children in the back without modifying it, so your stuffed!!

Thats about the size of it................
Hi Andy
sorry forgot about the side facing bit:
Yep your right, no chils under 12/13 or less than 135cm can sit in a side facing seat, no matter how old the vehicle - just had a thought?? - not sure about rear facing seats, will have to look that one up.
Chris

so evenif your child is over 135cm, if they are under 12 they cannot use the saide facing seats?
this sounds like the thin end of the wedge, how long before they ban seats like this altogether?
