toyota/split charge electrical problem

To all gurus of the black art of electrics,
Our only casualty from the Marsabit Moyale road seems to be an odd problem with our battery system.

After a long run the car will not start and one of the starter batteries seems dead. The next morning it starts fine. What am I missing.

Might be connected to our system. Normal 2 batteries plus aux on split charge system.

Still I cannot get over the mystery of no power to start the engine (just the click) in the evening and yet turns over first time the next morning, what am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

JT

Hi,

How long has the problem been going on for?

When you try it in the evening, is that when the engine is hot?

If it is heat related I would suspect a loose connection somewhere that is related to the heat so would advise checking all the connections to the batteries, as well as connections to the starter motor.

The other thing that you might have is a major power drain during the day, but then the battery recovers over night although it is a long shot.

What Toyota do you have and what split charging system?

Some more info would be helpful.

Are you sure it is a lack of power ? Just a click suggest (to me) your starter-engine is blocked/jammed. This can be heat-related, or faulty/filtty contacts or even loose bolts, the big ones which connect the starter to your engine (experience).

I know it is not a complete solution but maybe a pointer in the right direction.

good luck
