truck camper /box mountings
I have looked through the forums and the blogs available so I do understand the chassis twist/ torsion free mountings but I have seen several vehicles that do not have this or trucks with flatbed and steel container/military box lashed to the flatbed and even what looks like campervan/caravan bodies as well. Some of these are doing pretty extreme offroad stuff such as Dresden-Breslau and also qaurry driving.
So do most military flatbeds/control boxes already have some sort of torsion free mountings. I was looking at unimog ambulance and Man-KAt flatbeds the Man-Kats do have a mounting which look like the designs I have seen on the web for mounting your camper box.
What about the UK bedfords/Dafs.

i'm pretty sure the bedfords do , i guess the dafs would too as the trucks are designed to twist . the flatbed doesn't twist , thats the point of the mounting, so you can load these items on it.
i guess some vehicles may be designed not to twist but they then need another way of keeping the wheels in contact with the ground
Theres some details on this one about the daf Overland camper for sale

chassis twist
the need for flexible chassis mounting is determined by the design of the truck. Some trucks don't have flexible chassis and therefore a flexible mounting is not required, those that flex need a flexible mounting.
Now, you can say that to some degree all chassis flex and this thefore reflex on ho ridged a non flexible mounting can be. some a fixed, some such as the KAT1 use spring loaded mounting, others such as the unimog use a three or four point pivot system. it really depends on how much you are going to challange your truck off-road and how ridged your rear fletbed or box is going to be to compensate.
All very complicated, if you have a truck in mind I can give some specific advice. give me a ring 07714 234733 if you want to discuss.

Warning: this is a 24MB download. It is the U3-5000 Unimog Bodybuilder manual from Mercedes. It has all you ever wanted to know about Unimog's torsion free mounting system. And lots of other information.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
