I quite like having the trailer braked. I don't know all the options but ideally I would like something fairly solid and robust if for going on one of these journeys which probably means its probably relatively heavy which means I want the brakes. I find keeps the trailer more in line under braking. As to maximum weight, I don't have an exact figure but I would want to minimise it as much as possible because dragging large weights is going to put extra strain on the vehicle. Also I'd ideally like something that I can move about by hand so if I got really stuck, I have some options. If you end up getting really heavy then its going to make it quite difficult. I guess to try and turn it round a bit, why do you need to take things that weigh so much. I guess if you are trying to do something like support a motorcycle tour or something then it makes sense but if its purely to take expedition supplies then do you really need all the things you are planning taking?
On the suspension, yes I would go for some rather than just the blocks. Leaf springs have traditionally been associated with load carrying but I think either can work. My sankey uses leaf springs, I think some of the more modern ones use coils. I'd be happy with either.
