Budapest bike rental and riding
I am thinking about renting a bike in Budapest for a week and riding it eastwards, hopefully to Dracula's castle and other exciting places. I've seen several ads online advertizing bikes for rent at quite reasonable prices, but alas I don't know hungarian enough to make any sense of it. Has anyone had any experience with renting/riding a bike in the area? Thanks!

bike rental
you will need to check to see if the hire company will allow you to take the bike out of the country to travel to draculars castle in Romania. you will spend at least 4-5 to the Romanian boarder and another 7 to the castle. if the bike breaks down or you have an accident will they recover you. if you want to visit Romania fly to Bucharest can arrange a bike for you here and accommodation it does take a good five days to see everything.
cheap flights can be had from blueair wizzair etc.
need and more advice just send a p.m

Are you talking about bicycles or motorcycles? 4-5 days to get from Budapest to the Romanian border? You must mean pushbikes, Hungary isn't that big.
Don't be afraid to send any hire shops an e-mail in English or phone, lots of Hungarians speak English.
Indoors.

Bike rental in Budapest
After shopping around with 3 other rental companies in Budapest, I rented a R1200GS from Moto24. http://moto24.hu/
Their service was better than the other guys, had 2 english speakers, delivered and picked up the bike from my hotel, and had a zumo GPS with good ride routes already programmed in. I have rented bikes in Thailand, Turkey, and Spain, and this was the best service I had ever gotten.
The bike was in great shape with crash-guards/engine guards, top case, lock and chain. The 1200GS's had street focused tires on on them and were pretty sticky on the twisties. However, don't plan on riding mud roads (though gravel and dirt are managable).
If you rent with them, I'd recommend coordinating in advance to make a deposit with a credit card or paypal. They can do airport drop off/pickup too, which would save you some time dealing with hungarian cabbies or public transit. Bike Rental Insurance in Hungary is nonexistant, so you have to leave an 800 euro deposit for the 1200 GS or about 400 euro for the BMW 650s. It sucks, but they gave it back to me 4 days later without any drama.
