I did a similar ride. Only I went over to Buda and then down into Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and then back to my home in Germany.

There were no logistics involved really. Being an EU citizen means I can travel just about anywhere in Western & most of Eastern Europe without any hassle. Entering the ex communist countries meant at the most, a cursory glance at my passport. Our normal UK insurance copvered us for all coubtries except Croatia where we had to buy insurance at the border.
As a US citizen, your insurance situation will be very different to ours. I can imagine you needing a residential address in Hungary & possibly some sort of International Driving Permit?
I've no idea where to look for used bikes in Hungary. The only place I can suggest is
http://www.tourenfahrer.de/rainbow/(...-DE&tabID=3339
The websiite of German bike magazine Tourenfahre. The sites in German, I think the link takes you to the page for used bike sales.
Good luck!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
