Danube, Iron Gates, what is the road like on North bank.
Hi all,
Does anyone happen to know: What is the state of Romanian route DN57, north bank of the Danube between Dobreta Turnu Severin and the border crossing into Serbia at Bela Crkva ?
Anyone been there last year, or even this winter ?
Backgrond:
The Danube passes through the "Iron Gates" there, cuts right through the mountains. The riding and the views from Serbian south bank were great last year.

This year I want to do +/- the same route, to get from Bucharest to Zenum in a day (dont ask, it is work), but I want to follow the Romanian DN57.
So, IF I can make it to Dobreta by lunch, I want to choose the Northern bank instead of the safer+faster alternative which is to cross at Djerdap dam and ride through Serbia again.
But, being anal about taking same road twice, I want to ride the North bank this time, provided I can sort cross the mountains (Iron Gate), get into Serbia before evening and make it to Zenum destination that evening.
note: bike is an F800GT, a road-bike, not an allroad. Hence need reasonable roads.
Anyone have an impression or opinion of that Road DN57 ?
