Europe to Russia

Planning a trip from Europe into Russia Central Asian republics,Iran and the Middle east in July 03. I've a couple of questions to ask. I will be collecting my bike in London and heading east with the better half on the back. Is it outrageously expensive to ride (r80g/s) through Sweden and Finland into Russia? How expensive and how do you get from Denmark to Sweden? How does it compare with travelling through Poland Lithuania etc(visas yuk). Unfortunately the pacific peso A$ does not go far these days. Do you enter Russia at Vyborg from Finland? How do you sleep if the sun doesnt go down?

Grant and Susan the site is ace and to Vincent et al the info has been really helpful.

There is a link on this side were folks are discussing riding up through Scandinavia and into Russia (including myself).

Our plan is basicly the same as your only we are going in September. Think somebody else is going in June.

Anyway, some info and answers to your questions are here:

You can go from Denmark to Sweden by ferry(Putgarden-Rodbyhavn and Helsingor-Hesingborg or by (toll)bridge(2).
ferry or bridge will cost you $ 40,-- in total.
I did it last september.

European Travel

Hello, I am going to Europe for the first time. I would like to get a motorcycle to travel around on. I'm thinking of flying into Germany or Spain and possibly go into Russia. If not then travel through Italy, France and Spain.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to rent a motorcycle for 2 weeks ? The sites I've checked want $1000 a wk and $2500 dwn plus insurance.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks ! Michael

Hi, from Sweden to Finland you take a ferry in Stokholm to Turku in finland. You can cross the border in Vyborg to Russia. It will take time at the border. Russia police is tricky and time consuming also on the roads. You can sleep using an ailine face mask. Bring it for both of you.
Have a nice trip

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
