for us that live up the road though, it's 800 kms (the cheapest/shortest way by motorway) to edinburgh from dover. at approx 20 kms/lt that's 40 litres, and at £1.06/lt that's £64. Add in something to eat and a couple of coffees, and you have maybe £80. Plus 8 hours non-stop. So, including the (cheapest) ferry about £100.
Our return fares from Ijmuden/Newcastle I'm sure were around £80, so a single should be a little cheaper.
