Exclamation Good parts shops Istanbul

Hi folks,
Today the chain on my bike snapped entailing a 13km push in the mid-day sun to find someone with a centre punch. The chain was only 5 days old and replaced my OEM one which disintegrated 6 days ago. It was the only one available and looked like it was for the local 125s and therefore a bit puny but I had hoped it would get me home.
Anyway to cut a long story short I need to fınd someone in Istanbul who deals in big bikes and therefore beefy chains. Help me please!
Matt
ps: sorry I am way too tired to do a search so if this has been covered recently send me the thread!

You may already know about the bike shops (mostly accessories, but some parts) in the back streets near where the ferries leave for Kadikoy (on the Sultanahmet side). I can't recall seeing any spares for large bikes, but if they don't have what you're after, they might point you in the right direction.

Smile istanbul

seanh probably means Gencmoto (if it still exists), the main shop is in Beshiktash on a main street (easy to find)

yes, Gencmoto (you pronounce it Geshmoto) will have a chain for you that gets you back home. buy the best chain they have, because they used to sell a lot crap. And ask about the price before, if they fit it ...

good luck

I believe there is a BMW dealer in Istanbul. Can anyone give me the address?

Also, do BMWs and Japanese bikes use the same type of chain? (Specifically Yamahas)

Matt
Thanks for the info so far.

Service for Harley

If it is a Harley, best to contact Efsane Motor.
If it is just a chain problem, you may ask to Efsane Motor again for a good technician for Harley.
If it is a BMW, my advice will be something else.
Any trouble, please send me a personal e-mail.
Good Luck,

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
