Greece guru needed :)
Hi people
I need some advice. Im beginning my RTW trip next may 22nd, and I'll be going though Greece. However, it's my first time in this country and it's difficult for me to decide a route. I have some 10 days, and I need to go from any Albany border to Alexandroupoli. I'm interested in people, landscapes, popular culture and food rather than museums.
Could you please be so kind to suggest a route?.
Thanks!

Hi!
Definite route I don't have in mind but I'll tell you my ideas with some places.
If you're coming from Albania then I would suggest to enter via Krystallopigi which is just south of lakes Prespes. Since the lakes are shared between the countries you could tour them all round. Might be interesting to see how it is. From there you should check: Flonira, Kastoria & Konitsa.
Just below Konitsa towards Ioannina you'll find the Vikos Gorge best viewed from a spot on the village Monodendri, one of the many beautiful villages in Zagori area. If you follow the road going higher you'll come across a petrified forest (last time I was there it was inaccessible due to snow but in one month time there want be any). Then, passing via Ioannina & Metsovo towards Kalabaka and Meteora.
From there it depends on the time you have and how long do you want to ride/stay in one place: you can go south if you have enough time and/or head east to Volos & Pilio. Great view of the Aegean sea from mountains top, then drop down to sea level.
One more detour from Thessaloniki to Chalkidiki, but I don't have a specific place in mind and then ether follow Egnatia Odos to Alexandroupoli (fastest) or go north via Serres, Drama & Xanthi.
Hoped I helped a littlebit !

nKmS-
Great post! I didn't post this topic but my group (3 of us) will also be heading through this area on our way from Italy to Turkey and beyond, and your suggestions look great to me.
I particularly like the way Meteora, Kastoria, and Metsovo look in the pictures in the links.
Thanks...............shu
