Good call, better than june/july/august due to the heat.
I hiked the portugese Camino, Start in Porto, then go north to Santiago. Also very nice and with a lot less people. However, it's not the "classic" Camino.
Best tip I might have is to carry all your stuff yourself, pack crazy light, and that way you can stop as early or late any given day that you want. Last year I did it with a buddy and carried about 8kg each, and it could have been lighter.
Wear the newest best wool hiking socks you can get. 3 pairs socks/jocks/tshirt is about right as some nights you can rinse them out and dry them, some nights not.
We went with hiking boots, and were glad we did. Quite a bit of loose gravel surfaces, and the solid soles paid off.
Bon Camino!
