Need help. Bremerhaven or Bremen customs.
I have shipped my bike to Bremerhaven from New York after completing the Route 66. It will arrive on 17.05.2011
Meanwhile, I am in Mexico to kill time.
I have Carte Verde and all the necessary documents to drive in Europe.
I have contacted several freight forwarders and customs clearing agents.
No response.
Has any one imported a non EEC bike to Germany? If so can I do it on my own?
Your kind advise will be much appreciated.

I haven't imported a none EEC bike to europe (I guess you mean a temp import). But I have taken a swedish bike from Canda to Germany and I had no problem what so ever.
I hope the same goes for the other way around, the only part as i can remember now that you need a agent is to get it shipped. To get it through custom was the easy part, even if the knowledge was extremaly limited ("Do you speak english?" "Nein!"). If you're not going to register it in germany just claim a temp import and you should be safe within EU for a few months. I guess....
Anyway even if the language might seems to be a barrier the custom is very helpfull and will try to their best to get you through. It took me 10 min to get my bike through custom in Frankfurt, it took the freight company 4 hours to get the documents from their office to the customs (200 m away)...
I hope you will have the same positive experiance with german customs as I had.
Cheers,
Zappa

You could try Olaf Kleinknecht. He works for a company specializing in shipping bikes out of Germany (which most freight forwarders won't touch with bargepole anymore). Maybe he can offer his service or some advise? My only connection is that I used them to ship a bike to NZ.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
