It would seem then you would save a fortune on repeating countries have less ferry journies and also you would get the better climate while in the north and the cooler climate when down south sept/oct. Just a thought.

But then we'd miss Denmark, also we'll do just the south of France on the second leg of the journey, then Spain and Portugal.

Thanks a lot for that Indu!

My pleasure. However, if seeing Denmark is your prime concern, I'd go up to Hirtshals and take the 4 hours crossing with Color Line from Hirtshals to Kristiansand, Norway. 2 pax plus bike is some 60-70 GBP, I think. Easy reservation, no need to sleep over, and a nice break in the driving. You could also do some tax free shopping on board (Norway is non-EU, remember).
Check out this site:

Have fun!

Hope you didn't get me wrong! I really appreciate every single input here, and have all these long threads on the HD! We'll try to avoid ferries when possible because they're usually quite steep!
Indu - Thanks again!
Will have a proper look on website...

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
