Overland Camp Bulgaria
Hi Guys
Just putting the feelers out to see if there would be any intrest,We have a house with a fair bit of land in Bulgaria near to Varna,
We are moving out there next year one of the plans I have is to open a Camp for Overlanders that are passing through.
It will be basic to start with but with a good safe area for camping,It will have a BBQ area fire pit and ablustions clothes washing facilatys and internet WIFI.
I will also have a good aray of tools to fix any problem you may have,we will also offer a postal address incase you need part delivered in advance of you getting there.
We will offer good home grown organic food as well.
We won't charge alot around 5 to 10 Euros a night,really it's just a way to meet like minded people and put a few coffers in the jar for our own trips.

I looked long and hard for a place to stay outside of Varna (mostly chasing a hostel which didn't exist, then riding around in circles on roads lined with women standing at the roadside trying to make eye contact) before finding a place where I happily paid a lot more than 10 euros for a cabin. I'd stay at your place if it were easy to find. Note that I don't use GPS and I don't speak any Slavic languages, which has a lot to do with things being easy to find.

I didn't see many overlanders in that area--one every couple of days. That's not to say your idea is not a good one, but I would not want you to get too ambitious without testing the water first.

Good to hear that there would be some interest.
As I said it's just for meeting like minded people ect, It's not a money making thing and as we know when you travel around that area it's not always easy to find some where to stay.
So all will be welcome 2 wheeled or 4.As I said it will be basic but have some amenities to make it comfortable.

Some of the bike camp's I have stayed at do a deal buy three night get four. If you have something like that you could make something out of it. Price is important for a traveller. So a week or 14 day rate would be welcome. And a precise location.

Knowing someone has such a place with European standards and attitude may make it worth to search/find and stay as I have some fear about visiting Bulgaria and being ripped off someway.

Need to advertise it well with services in good standards and friendly approach may make it work/run. Sure gets better when time pass.

Can't say if the location is worth that but idea looks good to me. Well worth a visit...

Would like to know more about...

As I say to start with it will be basic,Areas to park up and pitch your tent a comunaly BBQ and fire pit area,and some facilatys to help you get cleaned up sort your E-mails out and carry out vehicle maintance.And we will always be willing to help out in any way we can.
We will be open to vistors as from April next year but we are going to be renovating our house there, So the Camp site won't really be much more than a Safe field to camp in,So if anyone wants to turn up Your more than welcome and we would just say leave a donation of a few Euros.
If anyones interested the Loc is 43 31'30.93N 27 26'06.00E The name of the village is Cherventsi Post code 9298 it's 30km as the crow flys from Dobrich and 50km as the crow flys from Varna.

Great idea, thanks for sharing.
We should create a network of moto friendly places to camp throughout Europe for travelers.
I have a covered barn you can put your tent up in, in Ireland if anybody is passing through.

Looks like a good place,We are not just going to be open to Bikers but all Overlanders trucks 4x4's push bikes are all welcome.
I'm glad there is so much interest we really want to make this a special place to stay and offer the things that an Overlander needs most.

I wish you had opened it this year. We found only 2 campsites along the black Sea last week and they were horrific. Go for it !

Hi john it's a case of just turn up no problem late or no early.we don't care.but in spring it will be little more than a safe place to camp and have a bbq do some maintance if you need to,as this is when we are starting to get it together,but you are more than welcome to stay.

Hi gary, sounds like a great idea. i have riden around Bulgaria 3 times (05,07,09) and have always had difficulty finding accomodation.
will be back next year but unlikely to be as far East as Varna.

Andy have you tried booking.com ? We spent five weeks touring BG and Rom this summer and found it a great resource. Easy to use and ideal if you have a rough idea of where you want to be at days end

Gary, sounds good and we'll probably give it a go next time we are in BG.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
