I rode the Transalpina several weeks back, maybe 27 or 28 May. At the time the Transfag was closed due to snow.

19th June - the tunnel was open - just

the road surface and road condition is conducive to being a true mountain road and NOT the best road in the world

Transalpine was open, though lots of roadworks and they are widening the road, lots of nice tight and sweeping corners, better than the Transfagarasan to ride too

Both open and passable on 25th June

Just rode both the Transfagarasan & Transalpina last Monday 25th June from/to Sibiu in a clockwise direction took me about 9 hours. Fantastic, Transalpina the better riding experience, though the views riding up to and from the the top of Transfagarasan were awesome. Brand new black top on Transalpina which is 99.9% complete - no markings or barriers at the top. Avoid weekends if you want the better riding experience - zero traffic!!! Fantastic day on the bike - unforgettable.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
