Turkey from Iran - carrying spare fuel
What are the rules about bringing spare diesel fuel into Turkey? We normally carry spare fuel in case of shortages and will be coming into Turkey from Iran at Bazargan, we can carry up to 90 litres of diesel in jerrycans and would like to take maximum advantage of the much cheaper fuel in Iran but will this be a problem at the Turkish customs?

At the Azerbaijan - Turkey border this summer I saw a big lot full of vehicles registered from both sides, slowly rotting away. Some of them were quite nice cars, even big trucks.
These cars belonged to people who smuggle fuel across the border into Turkey.
When I entered Turkey from Iraq however, there were no checks at all.
Saving $150 or so in fuel prices sounds attractive, but personally I would not risk my car for that... it cost me a lot more.

We have no intention of trying to smuggle fuel, if it's not allowed to bring in any spare fuel then we won't do it.
However it's been suggested that up to 1/4 of the capacity of the vehicle's tank can be brought into the country as additional spare fuel without the need to pay import tax on it.

Not sure, I had a jerrycan (only 3 liters ) on my bike and nobody at the Sero border seemed to care at all about whatever I was taking into Turkey.
