UK Carnets
With the impending departure of the UK from the EU has anyone heard about any plans to have carnets for vehicles travelling to/from/transiting the UK/EU?

Nah, no mention of carnets. I expect vehicle registration and traffic policing is rigorous enough not to need them.
Lots of non-EU countries in the wider region where carnets are not reqd.
Foreign-reg'd cars are allowed 6 months (afair) in the UK before formal importation is required.
Even with the omnishambles of a no-deal Brexit and possibly increased tariff on foreign cars I can't imagine carnets would ever be implemented. They're going to have enough problems with the lorry-jams at every sea-port!
There has been some discussion of insurance Green Cards being required for travel between UK and EU but that's solely an insurance issue.

I think we’d have to have a kind of dribbling mad ultra hard bring it on style Brexit before carnets for private vehicles visiting the UK would be brought in. If that happened, given the mood in the EU at present, I suspect a tit for tat reciprocation wouldn’t then be far behind.
We used to need them though. I recently found an old (1957) guide to ‘foreign’ (= European) motorcycle touring in a charity shop and it mentions needing a carnet if you were going to more than one country. There was a ‘lite’ version, a Pink Triptyque, if you were only going to France + a few others. Oh, and you needed a visa for Spain.
No mention of cost but the carnet was said to be ‘easily available from the AA or RAC’. Quite when the requirement was dropped I’ve no idea but it was before I started ‘overlanding’ in the early 70’s so well before we joined what became the EU.
