UK to Ilomantsi, Finland on MZ TS250/1

Hi Folks, I'm thinking of taking my 1976 MZ TS250/1 Supa 5 for a little trip out next June to meet up with the Finland MZ riders club.

Has anyone got any suggestions of the best route up to that part of the world ?

Is it better to go via Scotland, Norway and Sweden or throught Germany, ferry to Denmark and then ferry again to Finland.

All suggestions greatly appreciated for this silly idea.
Cheers

If I can I avoid riding up through Germany. I live in Belgium and would be willing to pay for a ferry out of Holland to Sweden, Norway,... instead of riding up through Germany and Denmark.
I found North Germany 'boring' even while we didn't take any autobahn. And it was very hard to find acceptable campings (read: not too expensive, commercial,...).
Denmark was the most expensive of all Scandinavian countries. We only past through in one day, one night. We don't have such great impression of the country.

Sweden, Norway,... on the other hand are fantastic.

Pieter.

It depeds how much you have time and money and what you want from that trip.

If you have more time than money and want to spend time at road I recommed route: Germany-Poland-Lithuania-Latvia-Estonia-Finland. Prices are low and there is lots of to see even if you choose shortest way. Germany could be not so nice to drive throught with small bike but rest of the route could be nice. Ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki cost about 30 euros.

More common route throught Germany-Denmark-Sweden is much more boring. Fact is that in norhther Germany, Denmark or southern Sweden is not much to see. Of course everywhere you can find something interesting but from east it is easier to find. Ferrys or bridge fees at route Germany-Denmark-Sweden are about 40 euros and from Stockholm to Turku about 60 euros or more.

If you want to spend a bit more time and put some more money for your trip nice choice could be to take ferry from U.K. to Norway and drive throught Norway and Sweden to Finland. Ferry from U.K. to Norway could be expensive but after that you just need to drive.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
