Katherine Hawley, California

Sadly, I was just informed that one of the riders {Katherine Hawley} lost her life on her way home from the Cambria, CA, HU Traveler Meeting. I just wanted to let everyone know.

In the picture she is the woman on the right in the black shirt.

Here is the information:

Very sad news, please pass along condolences to her husband. I spoke with her about outfitting the bike as she and I had the same model/make. Did not know Katherine well, but it is such a sad loss and a reminder of how fragile we all are, especially while out on the bikes!

Heartbreaking

I don't think I ever met Katherine, but she'll be in my thoughts nonetheless. Condolences to the family.

We were shocked to hear of this, and much saddened. Thanks to all who sent photos in, they have been passed on, along with many condolences to Katherine's husband.

We always worry that everyone will be ok at our events, and wish we could guarantee your safety from such accidents.

Please ride safe all of you.

Grant and Susan

Katherine Hawley

One life cut drastically short by an unforeseeable occurrence ... many lives affected forever as a result.

I only recently met Katherine for the first time at the HU meeting in Cambria. We talked about my current ride to South America. Lovely lady. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family.

As riders our margin for error (ours or theirs) is so slim it's pretty much impossible to protect ourselves in cases like this.

R.I.P Katherine.

stop police chase - innocent people die

disturbing:

"The California Highway Patrol Officers were chasing De La Torre, in a sedan, when he crashed into Hawley who was on her motorcycle. Both were killed in the crash."

I thought Police didn't chase people any more for this very reason. 2 lives lost there must be a lesson to be learned.
My condolences to her friends and family a tragic loss.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
